TSI Announces New FHC50 Fume Hood Controller

TSI Incorporated, the leader in products for critical environment applications, proudly announces its new FHC50 Fume Hood Controller. The FHC50 provides the ultimate in flexibility, safety and energy savings. Input measurement options include sash sensors, side-wall velocity sensors and flows from venturi valves, pressure- or thermal-based flow stations. The FHC50 can control valves or dampers with a fast-acting actuator for containment during sash movements. Versions of the FHC50 seamlessly integrate to Building Management Systems via BACnet®, LonWorks®, or Modbus™ to document alarms and trend data. Visual and audible alarms provide a local indication of unsafe conditions. Additional inputs and outputs make it easy to configure options like remote alarms and unoccupied modes. The FHC50 now allows engineers the flexibility to design laboratories the way they should be designed.

TVOC ATEX Certified For Zone 2 Areas Without Safety Barriers

Ion Science introduces the ATEX approved 3 wire TVOC monitor,
for use without safety barriers in Zone 2 hazardous areas.

The ATEX certified TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compound) can be installed without barriers in a Zone 2 area, to directly replace an existing VOC area monitor. A significant benefit to the customer is the instrument’s easy installation; saving time and reducing costs.

TVOC is also available as an IECEx and ATEX approved 4 wire option for zone 1 areas, with safety barriers.

Designed for fixed, continuous area monitoring, TVOC provides rapid, accurate detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The 4-20mA analogue output allows TVOC to be integrated into a DCS control system to give warning or control of high VOC levels within the working environment.

The TVOC photoionisation detection (PID) cell utilises patented Fence Electrode Technology; independently verified as the best performing PID on the market. Its proven PID capabilities provide an unrivalled resistance to humidity and give faster, more consistent results than competing PID instruments.

Target industries and applications for TVOC include; manufacturing and processing plants, refineries, petrochemical, offshore, chemical, waste water treatment, pharmaceutical, indoor air quality, pulp and paper, solvent recovery systems and industrial painting and coating.

TVOC is available from Ion Science and its global network of distributors, along with an exclusive range of accessories.

      Recent developments @ ITS

Since our last newsletter a range of projects are now coming to completion. These will significantly improve all the areas of instrumentation that Industrial Tomography Systems (ITS) is involved in.

ITS’s primary Electrical Resistance Tomography platform – the p2000 – has had a substantial makeover and is being upgraded as the p2+.
ITS have been awarded a Research and Development Grant from Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to evaluate the feasibility of developing a combined in-line sensor for the rheological characterisation of materials.
Industry snapshot: Mining

Given that one of the early researchers in process tomography – Professor Richard Williams - has a background in mining, it is not surprising that there are many potential applications of the technology in this sector.

Application insight

One of the interesting aspects of process tomography is how the same unit process can be found across a range of industries. One of the most common is the transport of slurries.
