Sample Chambers
Both NWR and UP Laser Ablation platforms offer different sample chambers to maximize flexibility of the laser ablation process by accommodating needs for different types of samples.

SuperCell Once a laser induced aerosol is generated it must be transported from the laser chamber to the ICP spectrometer. The dynamics associated with transporting the aerosol to an inductively coupled plasma will have a significant effect on all subsequent data. Sample chambers designed for laser ablation have traditionally had large, cylindrical volumes (20cc to 80cc). The driving force behind these large volume designs is primarily based on the desire to fit many samples (and standards) in the cell at one time, enhancing analytical throughput. Under normal operating conditions the carrier gas flow through these cells range from 0.5L/min. to 1.5L min-1. (8cc to 25cc sec.-1). For these conventional sample cells the time required for complete evacuation of an aerosol generated by a single laser pulse is > 6 seconds.

CryoCell The CryoCell is a laser ablation cell offered as an option to New Wave Research's, UP-213nm laser ablation product line. The cell is optimized for the ablation of Ice and biological tissues, without sacrificing analytical performance due to water evaporation from 'web' samples during the Laser Ablation process. The CryoCell compensates for this by freezing the water and stopping evaporation, CryoCell ensures temperature settings on the sample remain at -30oC throughout the experiment Ablation can cause evaporation of water from ‘wet’ samples.

LFC The Large Format Cell (LFC) is a laser ablation cell offered as an option to New Wave Research's NWR-Platform and UP-Platform ablation systems. The cell is optimized for accepting large samples up to six inches square, without sacrificing analytical performance due to a large cell volume. LFC has a superior performance in signal intensity with improved washout time. This is due to a flexible "roving" cup within the cell constraining the spread of the aerosol. |
